Ritu Rani's Story

School - Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sr Higher Secondary School, Shahabad Markanda, Haryana

Ritu Rani did her schooling in Shahabad Markanda, Haryana where she was born and raised. She took hockey at the age of 9 and her training with the Shahbad Hockey Academy. She made her debut in the senior women hockey team in 2006 at the Asian Games in Doha and served as Team Captain from 2012 until 2016. She has played three Asian Games, two Commonwealth Games, three World Cups and lead the Indian women hockey team to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics for the first time since 1980. She is a recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2016.

What is Playing Hockey / What is a Career in Playing Hockey: Hockey is an outdoor sport played by two opposing teams of 11 players each who use their sticks curved at the striking end to hit a small, hard ball into their opponent's goal. There are many types of hockey such as bandy, field hockey and ice hockey. In India, field hockey is known simply as "hockey".

Playing Hockey Course / How I got into Playing Hockey: "I have been playing hockey since I was 9 years old.
