Mandi Nelson's Story

Mandi studied in psychology, women's studies, media, youth work and criminology at university.

It was while traveling to India in 2010 that she discovered her love for photography. Ever since, she has been involved in many projects, including self-funded documentaries, music videos and taking family, pregnancy, yogic or pet photo shoots.

What is Portrait Photography / What is a Career in Portrait Photography: Portrait photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic, or it might be clinical, as part of a medical study. Frequently, portraits are commissioned for special occasions, such as weddings or school events.

Portrait Photography Course / How I got into Portrait Photography: "For the last 10 years, I have been a professional director photographer and videographer. I find it such a delight to meet different people and to discover their depths, their joy, what makes them tick, and then to share that back in the physical to them. Photography in particular gives me the opportunity to mirror back to my subjects the luminosity, grace and beauty that I see."
