Shivam did his schooling from St Joseph's Academy, Dehradun. After that, he went to the Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Kolkata to pursue a Bachelors degree in Marine Engineering. He was recruited in the Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd under the cadetship programme in 2012. He has been sailing for the last five years and also cleared Class 2 exams. He is serving as a Third Engineer.

What is Marine Engineering / What is a Career in Marine Engineering: Marine engineering includes the engineering of boats, ships, oil rigs and any other marine vessel or structure, as well as oceanographic engineering. Specifically, marine engineering is the discipline of applying engineering sciences, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, and computer science, to the development, design, operation and maintenance of watercraft propulsion and on-board systems and oceanographic technology.

Marine Engineering Course / How I got into Marine Engineering: "After completing my graduation in Marine Engineering from the Marine Engineering and Research Institute in Kolkata, I joined the Mitsui OSK Ltd (MOL) in the Cadetship programme where I started working on a training ship. I am serving as a Third Engineer at MOL and I have also cleared my Class 2 exams."
