The Journey of a Hindi Teacher: Sangeeta Rawat's Passion for Language Introducing Sangeeta Rawat, a dedicated Hindi teacher with a rich experience spanning nearly two decades. Since starting her teaching career in 1999 until 2016, Sangeeta has devoted herself to imparting the beauty of the Hindi language to her students. In this article, we will explore her inspiring journey in teaching Hindi, the educational background required, the essential skills involved, the positives and challenges of her profession, and what a typical day looks like in her life as an educator. What Is Teaching Hindi? Teaching Hindi is not just about conveying linguistic skills; it encompasses facilitating a connection with one of the world’s most spoken languages. Sangeeta emphasizes the pride that comes with teaching Hindi, illuminated by her belief in its role as a crucial component of cultural identity. Understanding Hindi involves mastering grammar, literature, phonetics, and even psychological insights into student behavior, thus enriching the learner's experience. The objective is to nurture a love for the language while effectively engaging students and fostering their proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. Education A solid grasp of Hindi grammar is imperative for anyone wishing to teach the language effectively. Sangeeta firmly believes that grammar serves as the backbone of any language. It guides the teacher in articulating content clearly and aids students in constructing their understanding. With the misconception that grammar can be overlooked, she highlights that a comprehensive understanding allows educators to impart knowledge more accurately, enabling students to communicate with precision. Alongside grammar, teaching Hindi literature is equally important. Sangeeta sees literature as the life force of a language. It not only enriches students' linguistic abilities but also deepens their engagement with diverse cultural narratives. An appreciation for literary works enables students to connect with the emotional and artistic dimensions of the language, fostering their critical thinking and analytical skills while exploring their creativity. The importance of phonetics in Hindi teaching cannot be overstated. Sangeeta points out that correct pronunciation is crucial for effective communication. Teaching phonetics from an early age helps students utilize Hindi proficiently, making them more confident speakers. By integrating phonetic education into her methodologies, she ensures that her students can articulate sounds correctly, enhancing their overall language proficiency. Understanding child psychology is fundamental to engaging students effectively. Sangeeta acknowledges that grasping psychological principles helps her create an interesting classroom environment that keeps students focused and motivated. By recognizing different learning styles and emotional needs, she is better equipped to cater to her students and nurture their interest in the hindi subject matter. Staying informed about current affairs enriches a teacher's ability to connect with students on topical issues. Sangeeta emphasizes the value of blending contemporary themes into Hindi lessons, which not only makes learning relevant but also encourages students to think critically about the world around them. This knowledge allows her to enhance discussions and instill a sense of awareness, creating a dynamic learning atmosphere. Skills Significant dedication and hard work are essential qualities for a successful Hindi teacher. Sangeeta points out that her responsibilities extend far beyond just teaching in the classroom. With a myriad of activities taking place both in and out of school, effective time management becomes paramount. Teachers need to juggle planning lessons while ensuring that their engagement in extracurricular activities does not detract from their commitment to their students. Time management is a vital skill that enables educators to balance teaching responsibilities with administrative tasks. Sangeeta showcases how prioritizing tasks and allocating time properly allows her to provide undivided attention to her students. By mastering this skill, she can ensure a fulfilling educational experience, maximizing the learning potential for her students each day. Effective communication is a cornerstone of effective teaching. Sangeeta believes that a teacher proficient in communication skills fosters a more interactive and engaging learning environment. By modeling communication techniques, she instills in her students the importance of articulation, expression, and clarity, ultimately paving the way for their successful interactions both inside and outside the classroom. A nuanced understanding of assessment is needed for fair evaluation of students. Sangeeta discusses the importance of incorporating diverse assessment methods rather than relying solely on tests. Such an approach allows teachers to value individual student backgrounds and experiences, ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities to demonstrate their learning. Positives One of the most gratifying aspects of teaching Hindi is the satisfaction it brings. Sangeeta expresses deep fulfillment in sharing her passion for the language with students, describing teaching Hindi as a source of joy and pride. The reciprocal learning experience—wherein she learns as much from her students as they learn from her—further enhances her satisfaction. Teaching provides continuous learning opportunities, which Sangeeta values greatly. Through daily interactions and student engagements, she continually discovers new perspectives and ideas. This continuous exchange of knowledge ensures that she remains intellectually stimulated and adaptable in her teaching practices. The respect earned from students adds a profound dimension to Sangeeta's career. She shares how the bond formed with her students transcends typical educator-student relationships, yielding a treasure trove of invaluable experiences. This respect not only elevates her role as an educator but also solidifies her commitment to nurturing young minds. Being surrounded by energetic youth fosters an invigorating work environment. Sangeeta enjoys the dynamism created in her classroom as she guides her students toward their academic and personal goals. This vibrancy, she believes, enhances not just her teaching effectiveness but also contributes to her well-being and enthusiasm. Challenges Maintaining discipline in the classroom presents a significant challenge. Sangeeta acknowledges the difficulties faced in keeping students engaged and focused, particularly in an age where distractions abound. Cultivating an environment conducive to learning requires constant effort and innovation on her part. In addition to teaching, Sangeeta recognizes that teachers often face non-academic duties that can detract from their instructional time. Balancing these responsibilities can sometimes pull her focus away from the core objective of teaching Hindi. The need to allocate time and energy toward other school-related tasks adds to the complexity of her role. The pressures of maintaining an ideal standard of behavior can be overwhelming. As a teacher, Sangeeta feels a societal expectation to model excellence at all times, which can be challenging in moments of personal difficulty. Finding the balance between professional expectations and personal authenticity remains a nuanced endeavor. Sangeeta addresses the contemporary challenge of competition with English, which often overshadows the significance of Hindi. The societal inclination toward English language proficiency discourages enthusiasm for the Hindi language among students. Countering this perception raises the stakes for Hindi educators like her who are passionate about preserving the integrity of their language. A Day Of A typical day in Sangeeta's life as a Hindi teacher begins early in the morning and extends into a bustling school environment. She rises by 5:30 AM and is at the school by 8:00 AM. Her day involves preparing lesson plans, teaching classes, and engaging with students in ways that go beyond mere academics. Despite the challenges, every moment in the classroom affirm her commitment to educating young minds and instilling a love for Hindi. In summary, Sangeeta Rawat's journey as a Hindi teacher serves as an inspiring testament to the profound impact of language on cultural identity and education. Through her dedication, she not only nurtures linguistic skills but also enriches the lives of her students, reinforcing the value and beauty of Hindi in an increasingly globalized world. The path of teaching remains laden with hurdles, yet it promises immense rewards for those who embark upon it with passion and commitment, as Sangeeta exemplifies. | |

Teaching English is a great challenge, because teaching, whatever the subject one has to teach students, is a permanent challenge. Even more so, English is doubly a challenge because you have to teach children not only to talk but to think in a different language. To teach English, and the cultures of the countries where it is spoken, is to open the minds of children, who perhaps through the language, realize the possibilities they have to know other ways of thinking, other ways of living. In short is to teach them that communication is not only in Spanish but there are other human groups, other human cultures, that have a different language and is good to learn them. And since English is a universal language, not one, but the universal language, the challenge becomes more exciting.
"I studied English because it seemed to me that it was a career that was going to have a lot of job opportunities, and I was not mistaken, and to take advantage of the year i lived with Americans when i went abroad with a student scholarship, which gave me a good level of English to begin with. I studied in the UNT, in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, and while studying English, that was what would allow me to live, I studied philosophy that was what I was passionate about. I graduated as a teacher in English and i got my degree in philosophy in 1974 and 1977 respectively. By paternal suggestion I decided to set up an English academy with which I was able to build my own company, still running today with branches in the south of my province. In addition to teaching English in my academy, i taught English in a private secondary institution and in the UNSTA. Also, along with English, i taught many other things like anthropology, epistemology, logic and psychology, but in fact most of my working hours were dedicated to English. I made several trips to the United States with students from my academy, seeking to have them inmerge in the language, which is necessary to speak it."
