What Is Painting? Painting is an art form that involves applying color to a surface, typically canvas or paper, to express ideas, feelings, or concepts visually. Within this profession, artists, like Kavita, communicate their thoughts and emotions through colors, textures, and forms. The essence of painting lies in its ability to capture and convey the human experience, allowing individuals to witness the world through the artist's perspective. As Kavita notes, effective painting stems from clarity on the subject, an understanding of its cultural context, and a deep appreciation for its history and emotions. Education A deep understanding of the subject is the cornerstone of effective painting. Kavita emphasizes that clarity about what one is trying to depict is vital. This knowledge allows an artist to articulate their vision through colors and forms effectively. It’s not just about technique; it’s about conveying a narrative that resonates deeply with viewers. Knowledge of art history enriches a painter's work by providing context and inspiration. Kavita believes that understanding the cultural significance and historical background of a subject can elevate the quality of a painting. This insight encourages artists to explore deeper meanings, infusing their work with layers of context that engage the audience on multiple levels. Kavita underscores the importance of continuous learning through reading. By engaging with literature related to art, culture, and tradition, painters can updated and informed, enhancing their creative expression. Books serve as a resource for new techniques, ideas, and historical references that influences an artist's work. Mastering the interplay of lights and shades is crucial in making paintings come to life. Kavita points out that understanding how to manipulate light can enhance the emotion and depth of a piece. Lighting techniques are fundamental in creating atmosphere and helping subjects stand out, which is essential for conveying the artist's intended message. Kavita finds inspiration through travel and engagement with diverse cultures. This practice helps her to capture the subtleties of life in her work, enriching it with genuine insights from her surroundings. The financial aspect of pursuing a career in painting can be daunting, as materials needed for art-making can be expensive. Kavita stresses that the cost of canvas, brushes, and colors can add up, making it essential for artists to budget carefully to sustain their craft. Glass painting is a contemporary art which has been derived from the age old art of stained glass painting which involves putting smaller colored pieces of glass together. Water based acrylic glass paints are generally used for making designs.
"After doing my schooling from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, Delhi. I did my BA in economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. I had an interest in singing since my childhood because my grandfather was a prominent artist himself. So spending a decade in learning and practicing classical music in Kolkata, later I took formal education (Sangeet Visharad) from Chandigarh University, Punjab. I also happened to visit the St. John's cathedral, Kolkata and immediately fell in love with the huge stained-glass windows that adorned the place. The initial fascination with stained glass blossomed into an eclectic style and painting preferences when I took a series of classes. This interest, combined with a talent in drawing and eye for blending the colors and textures of glass led to an exciting new career in art glass design. In the past decade and a half, I have handled a varied mix of stained glass projects; ranging in scope from personal artefacts to intimate experimental panels to large-scale murals. In all, it is the attention to composition and technique that make my imagery so successful. My work has been showcased in Parampara - A Pan India Expo focusing on Interiors. Thereafter I have also been conducting Private Exhibitions of my selective works from 2008 till date. My work is the embodiment of functional art, meant to be organic in nature and not perfect factory reproductions. I have more than 15 years of experience. I currently work in my studio at home where I also teach the intricacies of Stained Glass painting to aspiring artists. My studio is my lifeline. When not painting or teaching - I would be on my yoga mat or deep in meditation. I am also a graduate of Landmark Worldwide."
